Privacy Policy

Short version: the website sets no cookies unless you say yes, the game has no account and stores your progress on your own machine, and neither shows advertising.

Site & game

Who we are

Maze X Monsters is the developer and publisher of the game Maze X Monsters and the operator of the website at mazexmonsters.com. For the purposes of the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, Maze X Monsters is the data controller for both.

For any privacy question — including exercising the rights described below — contact us at privacy@mazexmonsters.com.

The website

mazexmonsters.com is a static informational site. There are no accounts, no comment sections, no forms, no shopping cart and no server-side database. Nothing you do on it is recorded against you as an individual.

Cookies and your choice

By default this site sets no cookies. The first time you visit, a strip at the foot of the page asks whether you are willing to be counted by Google Analytics. Until you answer, and if you decline, nothing is loaded from Google and no cookies are set — we do not load the tag and then hold it back, we do not load it at all.

The one thing stored regardless is your answer, kept in your browser's localStorage so you are not asked on every page. It contains only the word granted or denied — no identifier of any kind. Storage that exists purely to remember a consent choice is strictly necessary under the ePrivacy Directive and needs no permission of its own.

You can change your mind whenever you like: Cookie settings in the footer re-opens the question.

Analytics — only if you accept

If you accept, the site loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-42L1CRS5NZ). From that point it sets the cookies _ga and _ga_* (up to two years) and records:

  • Pages viewed, and the order you viewed them in.
  • Approximate location — country and region, derived from a truncated IP address.
  • Device, browser and screen size.
  • How you arrived — a search engine, a link, or directly.
  • Clicks on a small number of outbound links we care about: the Steam wishlist, the soundtrack pre-save, and our YouTube and X links.

IP anonymisation is on, so Google does not receive your full address. We do not use Google Signals, demographics, advertising features or remarketing, and we do not sell or share this data. We see counts and trends, never individuals.

This data is processed by Google under its Privacy Policy, and is retained for 14 months. You can opt out across every site that uses it with Google's browser add-on, or simply decline here.

Counting visits without cookies

Separately, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views in aggregate. It is cookieless by design: it runs at our hosting layer, sets nothing in your browser, does not fingerprint your device and cannot track you across sites or over time. It tells us a page was viewed, roughly from where and on roughly what kind of device. It cannot tell us who you are, which is why it needs no consent and runs for everyone.

Fonts

The site's typefaces are served from our own domain rather than from a third-party font CDN. No font request leaves Cloudflare, and no third party receives your IP address as a result of loading them.

The gameplay video

When a trailer is published here it is not embedded in the usual way. The page shows our own image and a play button; nothing is requested from YouTube unless you press it. If you do, the video loads from youtube-nocookie.com, and from that point Google receives your IP address and the usual request information under Google's Privacy Policy. If you never press play, no request to Google is made at all.

Links to other sites

This site links out to Steam, to streaming services, to YouTube and X, to the soundtrack's label at dimstonemusic.com, and to our support addresses. Once you follow such a link you are on someone else's site, under their privacy policy, and this one no longer applies.

The game

Data stored on your device

Maze X Monsters stores the following on the machine you play on, and nowhere else:

  • Run history and high scores — escapes, deaths, score, time taken.
  • Progression — Gold balance, loadout, owned perks, unlocked recipes.
  • Achievement state.
  • Settings — key bindings, audio levels, brightness, reduce-motion preference.

There is no account, no login, no cloud save of our own, and no server we control that your game talks to. Deleting the game deletes this data.

Steam

Maze X Monsters is distributed through Steam, operated by Valve Corporation. When you buy, install or run the game through Steam, Valve processes data about that under Valve's Privacy Policy, not this one. If you have Steam Cloud enabled, Valve may sync your Maze X Monsters save file to your Steam account; that is a Steam feature you control in your Steam settings. Achievements you earn are visible on your Steam profile according to your own Steam privacy settings.

We receive from Valve only aggregate, non-identifying sales and usage statistics through the Steamworks partner dashboard. We cannot see who you are, and we do not receive your email address.

No advertising, no in-app purchases, no analytics SDK

The game contains no advertising, no in-app purchases, no loot boxes and no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK. No advertising identifier is read. Gold is earned by playing and cannot be bought with money.

Children

Maze X Monsters is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone. Since the game requires no account and collects no personal data, there is nothing for us to hold about a child or anyone else.

Your rights

Under the UK and EU GDPR you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. In practice we hold no personal data about you that we could look up — there is no account to search for. If you believe we hold something about you, write to us and we will tell you what we find, free of charge, within one month.

If you are in the UK you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). If you are in the EEA you may complain to your national supervisory authority.

For California residents: we do not sell or share personal information, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months.

International transfers

Cloudflare serves the site from a global network, so the technical request data described above may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Cloudflare relies on the appropriate safeguards for such transfers, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes — anything that would newly collect data about you — will be announced on the site before they take effect.
